Northern Colorado has a thriving sports community. If you are a fan of quality college athletics, Windsor is located just minutes from the University of Northern Colorado and Colorado State University, and the University of Colorado-Boulder is less than an hour away. All three schools offer a full range of top-notch collegiate sports teams that have enjoyed great recent success. Both CU and CSU were involved in the NCAA Basketball tournament in March of 2003 and their football teams are frequent participants in national bowl games. And UNC’s football team and girls volleyball team have recently been ranked nationally in their division.

Along with an exciting college scene, Northern Colorado has a brand new semi-pro hockey team, The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League. The Eagles, who will play their games just outside of Windsor, began their inaugural season in the Fall 2003.

After a mere 17 months of development, the Colorado Eagles were eager to drop the puck. Ralph Backstrom, team co-owner, believes that Northern Colorado is a great place to establish a winning tradition. “We’re in the hub of all of these great cities, and it’s a perfect location and great environment for our team and our staff.”

And if you’re a professional sports fan, Windsor is just 50 miles north of Denver, which has teams representing every major sports league.
